Overview
Graf Brothers Flooring, Inc. is seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Timber Cutter to join our logging / forestry team. The Timber Cutter is responsible for felling trees using hand tools or mechanical equipment, ensuring proper cutting techniques to maintain safety and timber quality. This role plays a crucial part in timber harvesting operations, supporting the supply chain of the wood products industry.
This position is a full-time, hourly role in various forests throughout the Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia areas, and therefore must be willing to travel. The basic operating hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM but are subject to change at any time.
Responsibilities- Operate chainsaws and/or mechanized cutting equipment to safely and efficiently fell trees.
- Assess tree conditions, surroundings, and potential hazards before cutting.
- Plan cutting direction to minimize damage to surrounding vegetation and structures.
- Limb and buck felled trees into logs according to specified lengths.
- Maintain and perform minor repairs on cutting equipment.
- Communicate with crew members to coordinate felling operations and maintain safety.
- Follow environmental and company guidelines for sustainable forestry practices.
- Mark trees for cutting or removal in selective harvesting operations (as needed).
- Keep accurate records of harvested timber.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Proven experience as a timber cutter.
- Master Logger Certification in KY, OH, & WV and willingness to follow state requirements.
- Strong understanding of tree felling techniques and equipment safety.
- Physical fitness and stamina to work long hours outdoors in varying conditions.
- Ability to operate chainsaws, wedges, axes, and other cutting tools.
- Familiarity with forestry safety regulations and PPE requirements.
- Must be willing to travel to multiple job sites throughout the KY, OH, and WV tri-state area; a valid driver’s license is required, and a CDL is a plus.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs+ frequently and work in rugged terrain.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
- Outdoor fieldwork in forested or rural locations.
- Exposure to loud noise, falling debris, insects, and potentially hazardous conditions.
