Overview
The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of staff and the coordination of patient care services in the medical-surgical, progressive care, surgical services, and emergency department settings on a shift-by-shift basis. Supervises staff in these areas on a shift-by-shift basis.
Education and LicensureAssociates Nursing Required. Bachelor’s Nursing Required with the following exceptions:
- Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree program within one year of job description signing and must complete the degree within 4 years.
- If in an academic bridge program from ASN to MSN, completion must occur within 5 years.
Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Prior employment in more than one clinical setting also preferred.
Certification & LicensureWest Virginia Nursing License Required or eligible for licensure. ACLS Certificate Required or eligible for certification. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
QualificationsStrong verbal and written communication skills necessary for interacting with patients, employees, and members of the medical staff. Must be able to readily adapt to change and remain calm in stressful situations.
