Overview
Patient Care Supervisor-Registered Nurse - part-time y s Medical Center - Huntington, WV. This is a supervisory position for the Nursing Department, other patient care areas, and the hospital in general. Responsibilities require knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures, allowing independent judgement in interpretation. The Nursing Supervisor duties include providing managerial and clinical links between the Nurse Director and the administrator on-call in their absence.
Additionally, this position includes knowledge of Utilization Review rules and regulations as they assist physicians and staff in assigning admission status.
- Provide supervisory coverage of the Nursing Department, other patient care areas, and the hospital in general.
- Possess knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures and apply independent judgement in interpretation.
- Serve as a managerial and clinical link between the Nurse Director and the administrator on-call in their absence.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Utilization Review rules and regulations to assist physicians and staff in assigning admission status.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Assess patient care requirements on each unit by making rounds in the Emergency Department (ED) and other hospital areas as needed.
- Assess the acuity of care required and implement shift staffing plans based on patient acuity, census, and availability.
- Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical and administrative problems; facilitate problem solving with nursing and ancillary staff.
- Provide immediate follow-up, documentation, and communication of incidents to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to emergency situations (RRT, Code Blue) and provide assistance as needed.
- Identify and interpret adherence to hospital and nursing philosophy, policies, and standards; report significant incidents to the administrator-on-call.
- Coordinate with departments not presently in the hospital for timely problem solving and assistance.
- Ensure adherence to admission criteria for patient status (observation/admission) in collaboration with physicians and staff.
- Monitor documentation for adherence to Utilization rules.
- Support staff development, attendance at training sessions, and continuing education needs.
- Maintain a safe work environment and address safety and infection control issues.
- Maintain professional appearance and adhere to dress code; comply with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and represent the organization professionally.
- Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
