Overview
Career Strategy is seeking a strategic and experienced Collections Manager to lead the credit and collections function for a large client based in New Martinsville, WV. This individual will be responsible for preserving financial assets through effective collections operations, minimizing delinquency and charge-offs, and developing team performance. This is a highly visible leadership role that involves daily collaboration with members, legal counsel, and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute proactive collections strategies to reduce delinquency and recover outstanding debt.
- Lead, train, and manage the collections department staff, ensuring alignment with performance goals and regulatory standards.
- Analyze borrower financials to negotiate repayment solutions and initiate legal proceedings when necessary.
- Oversee repossession and foreclosure efforts and determine asset disposal strategies.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state collections laws, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
- Serve as liaison with legal counsel on collections-related litigation and attend legal proceedings as needed.
- Conduct internal audits and performance reviews to ensure collection activities meet policy and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify underwriting or portfolio trends contributing to delinquency and losses.
- Maintain and audit documentation of collection activity; ensure detailed and professional records for all member interactions.
- Participate in the development of collection policies, procedures, and department budget planning.
- Lead regular collection review meetings and report metrics to executive leadership.
- Coordinate with internal departments on charge-off strategies, recoveries, and insurance claims.
- Foster a service-driven collections culture with high attention to professionalism, diplomacy, and compliance.
- Meet or exceed delinquency and charge-off reduction goals through team coaching and strategic planning.
- Stay current on industry trends, lending regulations, and compliance updates.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across departments to ensure smooth lending operations.
- Experience:
3-5 years of collections or related financial services experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role. - Education:
Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field. Equivalent experience with in-house training programs may be considered. - Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to manage sensitive member situations with professionalism and empathy. - Regulatory Knowledge:
Working knowledge of FDCPA and state/federal collections regulations. - Technology:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collections software platforms. - Interpersonal
Skills:
High degree of discretion, diplomacy, and tact; capable of coaching and influencing both internal staff and external members.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience in a credit union or community banking environment.
- Legal collections or litigation experience.
