Overview
Trusts Solicitor (Private Client) – Hybrid
RoleThe Trusts and Tax Team at Ashtons Legal is seeking a Solicitor with at least five years of post-qualification experience to join and administer a portfolio of trusts for longstanding clients. You will work collaboratively with Private Client lawyers and Trusts Corporation directors.
Responsibilities- Administer a portfolio of trusts on behalf of new and longstanding clients, including annual accounts and tax returns
- Draft legal documents related to: retirement and appointments of Trustees; advances to beneficiaries; winding up of trusts
- Prepare and submit the annual declarations on the Trust Registration Service
- Prepare and submit FATCA and CRS returns, where necessary
- Host the annual Trustees Meeting to review trust investments with the IFA and Trustees
- Prepare inheritance tax forms and calculations for all Relevant Property Trusts
- Undertake day-to-day administration of the trusts, including communicating with beneficiaries and handling requests for financial support
- At least five years of post-qualification experience in administering trusts
- Basic understanding of Personal Tax Returns
- Knowledge of inheritance tax, capital gains tax and CGT 60-day rule
- STEP qualification preferred but not essential
- Experience in preparing trust accounts and tax returns
- Experience dealing with professional intermediaries, trustees and beneficiaries
- Clear understanding of compliance requirements for trusts
- Experience liaising with HMRC on behalf of trustees and beneficiaries
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal processes clearly
- Strong relationship-building abilities with trustees and beneficiaries
- Experience in training, development and mentoring of junior team members
- Willingness to participate in business development activities for the team and the firm

Bury St Edmunds (hybrid role; please attend the office twice a week) - Contract Type:
Part-time, Full-time, Permanent - Specific
Hours:
Core hours 9.00 am to 5.00 pm; flexible arrangements discussed
