MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable) as required for regulated areas.
- Obtain demographic/billing/insurance information from patient/family/legal guardian and enter into registration/billing systems, and scan insurance cards & photo .
- Provide patients with information about insurance, payment of bills, and hospital procedures.
- Hold managed care responsibilities, including pre‑certification and authorizations.
- Prepare WVU Medicine standard consent forms, notice of privacy practice, and other paperwork; obtain electronic signature for consent to treat and patient financial obligations.
- Collect deposits, co‑payments, deductibles, and patient liability payments; provide receipts and document payments in registration/billing systems.
- Prepare armband for patient identification.
- Balance daily receipts and maintain cash drawer; follow up on accounts as flagged by the system.
- Initiate screenings and gather coverage information; complete appropriate paperwork.
- Perform medical necessity checks and complete Advanced Beneficiary Notice as needed.
- Schedule, reschedule, or cancel patients in accordance with hospital workflows.
- Check order completeness and validate order against scheduled service.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
- Visual acuity within normal range.
- Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other business equipment.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Reading and comprehension ability.
- High volume, fast paced environment.
- Exposure to communicable disease.
- Frequent interactions with patients, medical staff, and support staff daily.
- Accurate use of applicable computer software and equipment for access processing.
- Knowledge of procedures to report and document unsafe/hazardous conditions and incidents.
- Attention to detail, organization, and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to memorize and reference substantial amounts of information.
- Understanding of medical insurance requirements and basic covered services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
