Job Overview
Performs diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment. Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.
Minimum QualificationsEducation, Certification, and/or Licensure
- Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
- Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or nuclear medicine technologist certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess current or temporary radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided.
- MD:
Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians. - OH:
Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology. - PA:
No state license required. - WV:
Radiography license, temporary radiography license, or nuclear medicine and diagnostic CT license through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
Experience
One year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities- Prepares room, equipment, materials, and cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam.
- Performs examinations per Physician's orders and documents variances.
- Observes patient and equipment, reports any unusual occurrences, transports and assists patients.
- Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient's chart.
- Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, and ensures proper film labeling.
- Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
- Complies with policy and procedures for departmental and hospital-wide programs and participates in patient safety training.
- Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and judges CT images for proper technique.
- Performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician.
- Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- May perform IV insertion/blood draws and administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per protocol and ordering physician.
- Utilizes PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
- Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.
Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
Physical RequirementsFrequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping necessary body movements. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly. Hearing and visual acuity within normal range.
Working EnvironmentExposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, explosive gases, cleaning agents, and disinfectants daily. Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions. Exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of growth and development, understanding of patient needs and scope of treatment.
- Understanding of dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical and discharge planning needs.
- Knowledge of total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on control of pain and other symptoms.

Leveling- Level 1 No experience required. All computed tomography technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
- Level 2 Meets requirements for previous level. One year of experience. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1.
- Level 3 Meets requirements for previous levels. One continuing education pathway. Three years of experience. Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets.
- Level 4 Meets requirements for previous levels. One continuing education pathway. Five years of experience. Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 5 additional skill sets.
