Assists with directing the flow of activities within the nursing unitAssists with directing the flow of activities within the nursing unit. Maintains optimal communication between members of the Health Care Team and assists in providing direct patient care in compliance with established competencies, policies/procedures and standards while under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Minimum Qualifications- High school graduate/equivalent.
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- One (1) year of patient care assistant experience and/or clerical experience.
- Post high school business or secretarial or computer training.
- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Notary Public for the State of West Virginia or obtain within 6 months of hire date and keep it up-to-date.
- Performs direct patient care as assigned, applying good judgment and knowledge of skills required within the realm of job responsibility 100 % of the time.
- Reports all pertinent observations and concerns directly to the nurse 100 % of the time.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist patients with activities of daily living.
- Documents in the Electronic Medical Record as per policy 100 % of the time.
- Performs clerical skills including use of computer, copier, fax, phones, etc., 100 % of the time.
- Maintains patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality 100 % of the time.
- Demonstrates competency in technical skills, completes skills checklist, and correctly performs these skills daily as required.
- Answers call bells according to hospital standards.
- Uses equipment appropriately.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing nursing duties throughout the work shift.
- Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds.
- Visual acuity must be within normal range.
- Hearing within normal range is required (i.e.: to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.).
- Must be able to read and write legibly in English.
- Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in regular and recurring manner.
- Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, and explosive gases.
- Exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants.
- Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.
- Exposure to electrical current.
- Exposure to radiation from x-rays.
- Demonstrate ability to problem solve in a rapid, accurate manner.
- Establish good rapport with all staff and physicians.
- Thrive in a fast paced environment. Able to multi-task.
- Able to maintain composure and effective communication during times of stress.
- Able to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team.
- Make decisions based on the best interest of the patient, unit, and hospital.
- Full support of all hospital and unit initiatives with a positive attitude.
