Position: Electrics Intern - 2026
Location: Shepherdstown

The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for the position of Electrics Intern. CATF, a summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season across 3 venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community.

Located 90 minutes from DC, CATF makes its home in one of America’s coolest small towns, Shepherdstown, WV.

Electrics Interns assist in the realization of the lighting designs in all three venues, including maintenance and hanging/focusing of lights. During tech, interns serve as a board operator in one venue and work with the Lead Electrician and Lighting Designer to program the show. During the run, interns assist with changeovers and work with staff to complete necessary maintenance and repairs.

Experience with basic theatrical lighting equipment, the ability to lift/carry 50lbs and comfortably work at heights up to 30’ (on lifts, ladders and/or catwalks) is necessary; experience working with ETC EOS family consoles is preferred.

Position is seasonal, from June 2 to August 7. All staff and interns are provided free air-conditioned housing within walking distance of the theaters and work spaces (also air conditioned) 1-2 meals per day during tech, and free use of university gym, pool, and laundry facilities.
