Overview
The Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF) at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for the position of Stage Management Intern
. CATF, a LORT D summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, presents multiple plays each season in 3–4 venues and is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater.
- Assist the AEA Stage Manager (SM) and/or Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) with the daily execution of rehearsals, whether in repertory or for a single show.
- Help create and maintain rehearsal schedules and tracking paperwork.
- Set and track furniture, props, and run sound cues via Qlab.
- During tech and performances, work backstage under the direction of the SM or ASM to ensure correct placement of props, furniture, and execution of scene changes.
- Coordinate with run crews as needed for scene changes.
- Some prior experience in stage management.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable operating in darkened, backstage environments.
- Positive, flexible, and eager to learn.
- Experience in collaborative teamwork and a commitment to anti‑racist and anti‑oppressive (ARAO) efforts.

- Seasonal role: starts late May (exact start date varies by show) and ends August 4.
- Free, air‑conditioned housing within walking distance of theaters.
- Meals: 1–2 meals per day during tech.
- Free use of university gym, pool, and laundry facilities.

- Selected candidates will be asked to provide examples of previous stage management work.
- Interviews typically begin in early February and continue through late February to April; offers are extended as positions become available.
