Position: Stage Management Intern - 2026

Overview

The Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF) at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for the position of Stage Management Intern
. CATF, a LORT D summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, presents multiple plays each season in 3–4 venues and is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the AEA Stage Manager (SM) and/or Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) with the daily execution of rehearsals, whether in repertory or for a single show.
  • Help create and maintain rehearsal schedules and tracking paperwork.
  • Set and track furniture, props, and run sound cues via Qlab.
  • During tech and performances, work backstage under the direction of the SM or ASM to ensure correct placement of props, furniture, and execution of scene changes.
  • Coordinate with run crews as needed for scene changes.
Qualifications
  • Some prior experience in stage management.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable operating in darkened, backstage environments.
  • Positive, flexible, and eager to learn.
  • Experience in collaborative teamwork and a commitment to anti‑racist and anti‑oppressive (ARAO) efforts.

Practical Details
  • Seasonal role: starts late May (exact start date varies by show) and ends August 4.
  • Free, air‑conditioned housing within walking distance of theaters.
  • Meals: 1–2 meals per day during tech.
  • Free use of university gym, pool, and laundry facilities.
