Our Client is a leading design and build contractor operating in the water sector. They have over 1,000 staff working across regional centres, primarily supporting multiple long-term water sector frameworks through a number of joint ventures and alliances.
They are looking to recruit Design Engineers at all levels for their offices in either Manchester, Derby, Peterborough or Hertfordshire but with flexibility to work remotely.
You will report directly to the Design Manager and the responsibilities will include:
- Produce design documents which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be purchased, installed and commissioned effectively.
- Ensure that standard designs and design practices are utilised wherever possible.
- Agree the design cost budget and monitor performance against the budget and provide forecast costs to completion for individual projects.
- Record, monitor and control design changes in order to maximise cost efficiency.
- Organising the work required and documenting it in the Design Management Plan.
- Delivering the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
- Coordinating design outputs across all technical disciplines.
- Preparing monthly project status reports.
- Raising and resolution of technical queries.
- Establish working relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
- Provide commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
- Have strong technical skills to lead multidisciplinary teams to successfully deliver the allocated projects.
- Have a good working knowledge of the design processes in all the main technical disciplines.
- Provide clear and visible leadership to your project design team(s) and create a positive environment and drive an excellence culture in your team(s).
- Deliver detailed design to meet the construction needs and client acceptance.
- Ensure that all design work is delivered to the correct standards and specifications liaising with the technical leads on technical matters.
- Communicate effectively with the client through technical presentations, technical queries, and reports.
- Attend and contribute to all relevant programme, project and technical meetings.
- Provide technical support during Assembly and Commissioning stages where required.
- Maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
Skills & Experience:
- Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
- Knowledge and experience of Off-Site construction techniques.
- Work with the Client’s Team and the wider team to ensure that cost effective, technically compliant and buildable solutions are designed, approved and handed over to the construction teams in line with programme expectations and in accordance with the Project Delivery Process.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary design teams, in a design-build environment.
- Delivery driven with the ability to set targets and manage and motivate teams.
- Technical management and leadership skills.
- Good general knowledge of all technical aspects of water treatment.
- Understanding of sustainability in design.
- Able to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
Qualifications:
- Degree in an engineering-related discipline.
- Experience of process design in the water, waste water or industrial effluent treatment sectors would be beneficial but applications from candidates with process design expertise in other industries are welcome.
