Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer to join our KSS team in Poca, WV. This position is open to candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States. We are not able to provide work sponsorship or support relocation from outside the U.S. at this time.

Role Overview

The Project Engineer supports the execution of industrial weighing, material handling, and automation projects from cradle to grave. This is a multidisciplinary role with exposure to mechanical, hydraulic, structural, and electrical systems, focused on delivering designs that work in real-world conditions.

You’ll work closely with the team, learn the systems, and take on more responsibility over time. This role is well-suited for an engineer with strong fundamentals, curiosity about how systems work, and a willingness to wear multiple hats. As you ramp up, you’ll help design and own systems that are built, installed, and commissioned, working across disciplines as part of a small, hands‑on team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support planning and execution of engineering projects, including scope, schedules, and technical deliverables
  • Develop and review engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials
  • Apply practical engineering judgment to ensure designs account for fabrication, fit‑up, installation, access, serviceability, and operating conditions
  • Coordinate across mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls disciplines, as well as project managers, sales, vendors, and fabricators
  • Assist with equipment selection, cost estimating, procurement support, and engineering change management
  • Participate in system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting, both in‑house and at customer sites
  • Provide technical support during installation and startup to ensure clean translation from drawings to the field
  • Track technical progress, identify risks, and support mitigation as projects evolve
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and standardization efforts
  • Support the engineering team as project needs change
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required
  • This role coordinates with controls and electrical teams but does not own PLC or HMI programming
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical)
  • Experience in industrial or heavy‑equipment environments preferred
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with exposure to mechanical, hydraulic, structural, and electrical systems
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, and/or Solid Works preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective communicator able to work cross‑functionally
  • Experience level may vary; candidates will be evaluated based on technical capability, problem‑solving skills, and overall fit for the role
Work Environment
  • Mix of office‑based engineering and field involvement
  • Active industrial environments with noise and moving equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and inspections
  • Vision sufficient for reviewing drawings and inspecting equipment and workmanship
Position Details
  • Full‑time position
  • Typical hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility based on project needs
