Job Summary /Basic Function

The student will participate in all aspects of scientific research through participation in the SURE Program at Shepherd University. The student will work closely with their research mentor to identify a discrete project that contributes to the research activities of the faculty mentor and that is encompassed within the faculty mentor's expertise. After identifying the project the student and mentor will design an experiment or series of experiments based on the hypothesis posed.

The student will be responsible for completing these experiments with guidance from the research mentor. After gathering the data the student to complete the appropriate statistical analysis and work with the mentor to develop conclusions based on these analyses. The student will work with the research mentor to prepare materials for presentation and publication. These materials will minimally include an abstract and poster for submission to and presentation at the annual West Virginia Academy of Science meeting and a manuscript for publication in a Shepherd Undergraduate Research Journal.

Work Dates:
Monday, May 18, 2026 thru Friday, July 31, 2026 (not incl July 4 wk) No work beyond Fri., 8/7

Pay rate is determined by grant funding.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Lack of previous participation as a SOARS Scholar.

2. Have completed fewer than 90 credit hours at the end of the Spring 2026 semester.
