Overview

The IB MYP Coordinator is responsible for the management and administration of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) within the school. This position works closely with the District IB Coordinator, school administration, faculty, and various departments to ensure that the program operates in compliance with International Baccalaureate and Chicago Public Schools guidelines.

As a fully funded role by the Department of Magnet, Gifted, International Baccalaureate Programs (MGIBAP), the coordinator must be exclusively dedicated to program implementation and not assigned non‑IB related duties. Success is supported by strong pedagogical leadership systems and collaborative structures that underpin both the coordinator’s role and the program itself.

Responsibilities
  • Coordination with the Department of Magnet, Gifted, IB Programs
    • Manage all aspects of the school’s IB budget, providing updated program budgets and ensuring timely payment of IB fees.
    • Generate a yearly budget plan, assess priorities, and monitor expenditures.
    • Attend quarterly CPS IB MYP Coordinator meetings.
    • Provide accurate and timely responses to requests for information from MGIBAP.
  • Coordination with School Administration
    • Inform the head of school of IB program developments and concerns.
    • Ensure systems and processes are in place to document, share, and store curriculum policies and procedures that safeguard program implementation.
    • Act as a liaison between the IB Program, the school’s ILT, and the Local School Council.
    • Ensure copies of Coordinator Notes are given to the Head of School.
  • Coordination with Faculty
    • Collaborate with IB administrators and educators to develop admissions, language, assessment, academic integrity, and diverse learners policies.
    • Ensure all IB teachers are aware of policies around assessment, academic honesty, language, and diverse learners.
    • Organize vertical and horizontal IB staff meetings, storing agendas as evidence for the evaluation cycle.
    • Involve IB faculty in implementing the MYP; develop internal deadlines, construct and administer the required IB course of study, and ensure use of the MYP Unit Planner template.
    • Review and provide feedback on MYP Unit Planners.
    • Provide on‑site professional development.
    • Participate in Instructional Core walks and conduct classroom observations.
    • Coordinate teacher participation at IB workshops, including registration, airfare, hotel accommodations, and CBE release applications.
    • Ensure all IB teachers have access to MyIB and that school information is up‑to‑date.
    • Ensure the concept of international mindedness permeates all subjects and keep staff informed of new publications.
    • Circulate relevant IB information to teachers and students.
    • Offer support to IB teachers in curriculum matters and student affairs.
    • Help set up communication systems to ensure cooperation in program implementation.
    • Supervise student, parent, and community interest and support of the IB program.
    • Arrange guest speakers and field trips to enhance the academic curriculum.
    • Manage timeline for IB program evaluation.
  • Community and Personal Projects
    • Supervise and coordinate the Community Project (Grade 8) and Personal Project (Grade 10).
    • Register students completing the Personal Project by the October 20 deadline on IBIS.
    • Inform supervisors, advisors, and students about requirements, guidelines, assessment criteria, and due dates.
    • Recruit and train suitable advisors and aid students in finding an advisor.
    • Develop and enforce internal school deadlines for progress monitoring.
    • Collect and upload Personal Projects and forms on IBIS by the May 6 deadline.
    • Provide the Principal with results of Personal Projects from IBIS on August 1.
    • Provide the District Coordinator with results in .CSV format from IBIS on August 1.
  • Student Recruitment
    • Develop and disseminate promotional materials.
    • Organize outreach activities for the community.
  • Coordination with other IB and School Services
    • Ensure curriculum articulation between IB programs, covering subject scope/sequence, approaches to learning, and learner profile development.
