Description:
Berkeley County Schools seeks a Pre‑K Special Needs Teacher for the Pre‑K program. The successful candidate is expected to teach the Pre‑K curriculum to students with special needs, including children with mild to moderate disabilities, using or modifying the general education curriculum to meet the child's individual needs. The program is designed to prepare children for school by offering a range of experiences based on early learning standards.
It offers a balance of activities, including active and quiet times, large and small group activities, center times, indoor and outdoor play times, and child‑initiated and teacher‑planned activities. Berkeley County Pre‑K programs use Creative Curriculum. In addition, foster physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth; develop class and safety rules and procedures; monitor student progress; complete and maintain appropriate records; and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
A classroom aide is provided.

Schedule:
Berkeley County Schools Teacher Pay Scale based upon degree level and verified years of experience. 200-day employment term.
Qualification Requirements:
Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, and demonstrate the knowledge and ability to be a qualified and effective candidate for the vacancy.
Holds or can obtain West Virginia Teacher certification in pre‑school special needs.
Ability to collaborate with others and work closely with the County's Pre‑K program director and staff, parents/guardians, classroom aides, Pre‑K team at the school, and other pertinent personnel in order to best meet the needs of students. Professional traits such as strong organization skills, flexibility, patience, and personal responsibility are important to be a successful. Effective verbal and written skills, and interpersonal skills are required.

If a certified candidate is unavailable for this position, then an applicant who is eligible for a first‑class permit, alternative certification, Teacher‑in‑Residence, or a perm sub can be considered.
These positions will be filled based on the priority vote held on December 19, 2025. This vote was held in response to the Pre‑K classrooms merger at the new Inwood Early Learning Academy (IELA) for the 2026‑2027 school year (which will temporarily be located at the Gerrardstown facility for 1 year), in accordance with the 2022 approved Bond measure, the classroom teachers in the affected Pre‑K classrooms at Bunker Hill Elementary, Gerrardstown Elementary, Inwood Primary, and Valley View Elementary Schools shall receive priority in filling positions in Pre‑K classrooms at the IELA in compliance with WV Code 18A‑4‑8f.
Any positions not filled through the use of the priority vote will be reposted on or after April 1, 2026 and filled using the hiring matrix associated with WV Policy 5000.
