Location: Neptune
Overview
Provide academic student support by working one-on-one and in small groups with middle and high school students on specific concepts, i.e., Math, Science, and English Language Arts.
ResponsibilitiesTutor individual and small groups of students in fundamental and advanced skills and areas of knowledge.
- Facilitate study groups.
- Provide assistance to students in comprehending discipline-specific subject matter.
- Respond to student questions requiring an in-depth knowledge of subject matter, course concepts, and learning objectives.
Assist in conducting student support functions.
- Provide assistance with testing in special circumstances where discipline-specific knowledge is required (e.g., students with special needs).
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required in the field or related field or, in limited circumstances, the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Experience:
- Prior tutoring experience with K-12 students desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proven ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge bases.
- Proven ability to communicate ideas, principles, and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
- Computer literacy skills at an intermediate level including a proven ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the learning process, e.g., the College’s Learning Management System and ERP.
- Knowledge of information research strategies.
- Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Must successfully complete a discipline-specific skills test.
- Must have the ability to travel to other sites as needed.
- Fluency in a second language may be required.
