Overview
Job Title: Child Care Teacher
Pay: $20-$22 Per Hour
Shift: M-F, a 7.5-hour shift between the hours of 6A-8P.
Location: Richmond, VA, 23298
Schedule: Permanent Role
- Utilizing the Reggio education approach, plans, develops, and implements child-centered and adaptive lesson plans and provides a safe, secure, and engaging environment for children aged six weeks to six years.
- As part of a teaching team, ensures that interactions with children support their self-esteem and promote growth and development.
- Makes learning a fun process that allows and encourages children to reach their full potential.
- Plan, develop, and implement lesson plans for the assigned classroom.
- Document children’s daily progress and activities and prepare reports for parents.
- Ensure that the classroom is clean and neat and free of health hazards or infection control risks.
- Supervise teacher aides and volunteers assigned to their classroom or within their scope of practice throughout the center.
- Provide support for the program goals designed to promote autonomy, respect for the abilities of children, involvement of parents, and enriched experiences.
- Demonstrate understanding of how Reggio concepts are implemented in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms.
- Comply with licensing and/or accrediting body requirements and standards.
- Develop lesson plans/goals designed to nurture and promote cognitive, social, and motor development.
- Plan for and promote gross and fine motor development, language skills, and independence.
- Focus on enhancing self-concepts and self-esteem through positive interactions with children and families.
- Document and provide feedback/observations.
- Prepare, review, and maintain assigned written reports and records for each child.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines to support best practices for children and families.
- Active participation in continuing education and required meetings, staff meetings, and mandatory CE events.
- Maintain collaborative team relationships with other teachers/staff.
- Meet with other teachers, team leader, Site Supervisor, or Director to communicate needs of the children, staff, and area.
- Review data provided on each child and provide for a smooth transition into and out of the area for both parents and children.
- Infection control and environmental health/safety: utilize infection control procedures and maintain safety consciousness in assessing environmental needs.
- Ensure that classroom furniture and materials are cleaned routinely to minimize infection control risks.
- Clean/sweep floors to remove materials that may pose a safety hazard.
- Remove broken toys and report unsafe surfaces.
- Ensure staff are stationed on the playground to provide adequate supervision and coverage for stations.
- Ensure cleaning solutions are prepared correctly, labeled with date/time, and stored in a locked area.
- Assist in coordinating environmental needs with the team to maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked area that meets children and families’ needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of the client and department.

- Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate
- Previous experience working with children aged six weeks to six years (paid or unpaid)
- Two years of formal experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
