Overview

As a Controls Engineer for SPI Automation, you’ll be a part of a dynamic team of engineers and technicians responsible for the design and build of custom automation systems. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, assembly technicians, and machinists to provide a full solution for leading industrial manufacturing clients. Your goal will be to solve problems and execute projects that are On Time, On Budget, and On Spec.

Requirements

Not everyone can be a Controls Engineer. To be seriously considered for the role, please have the following:

  • Experience:

    At least 3-4 years’ experience in a similar role with comparable goals and responsibilities. Proven track record of successful Control system projects. Experience with automated machines, material handling, and food & beverage projects a plus.
  • Preferred Education:

    BS/BA degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Computer Science.
  • Skills:

    You must be an excellent programmer – PLC/HMI, robot, and database with the ability to troubleshoot equipment. AutoCAD or Solid Works experience a plus. Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge:
    Understanding of Electro/Mechanical machine functions (motors, gearboxes, sensors, safety devices, servo motors, conveyors, robots, etc.).
  • Communication:
    You must be able to take the lead in communicating with customers, suppliers, and other engineers to ensure design intent is clearly understood.
  • Characteristics:
    This is an autonomous position, so you should be a self-starter and self-motivated. Great fit candidates can be described as observant, practical, resourceful, and committed!
Responsibilities

As SPI Automation’s Controls Engineer, you’ll meet the role’s strategic intent by experimenting, learning, and adjusting as you go. Throughout your journey to help SPI Automation grow its customer base, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Project:
    Plan, conceptualize, and create designs for new manufacturing operations.
  • Architect:
    Create electrical specifications for control systems hardware, software, communication, field instrumentation, and control panels.
  • Collaborate:
    Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including other engineers, machinists, and assembly technicians.
  • Track:
    Keep detailed documentation to track project development and design process.
  • Results:
    Ensure project is On Time, On Budget, and On Spec.
