SIF offers a unique approach to forensic education, offering students transdisciplinary ways to learn about how technology and science interact with law, legal systems, and legal issues. SIF has strengths in three primary domains: (1) the psychological sciences, including clinical, developmental, and social psychology, as well as interdisciplinary psychology and law; (2) the natural sciences, such as anthropology (including bioarcheology, osteology, paleoanthropology), chemistry, and biology (including entomology and genetics);
and (3) information technology (digital forensics and cybersecurity). With a focus on real-world applications and ethical considerations, SIF prepares students for careers in which they shape a justice system informed by scientific evidence, and in which investigative and legal processes reflect empirically supported best practices and all people receive fair treatment.
