Position Summary

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides direct treatment to residents under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA helps residents improve their ability to perform daily activities through therapeutic techniques and interventions that support physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist, following established goals and care strategies.
  • Assist residents in developing, recovering, and improving skills needed for daily living and working.
  • Document treatment sessions, resident progress, and responses in accordance with regulatory and facility guidelines.
  • Educate residents, families, and caregivers on techniques to support therapy goals and promote independence.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Therapist and interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and timely progress updates.
  • Participate in care plan meetings and assist with modifications to therapy programs as needed.
  • Monitor residents’ condition during therapy and report changes to the Occupational Therapist or nursing staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of therapy equipment and work areas.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of employment.
  • Prior experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must pass a background check and meet health screening requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to assist with resident transfers and positioning as necessary.
