The Program Facilitator works primarily with school field trips and youth education programs, ensuring each visit is interactive, memorable, and meaningful. This role is central to delivering mission-driven educational programming focused on the preservation and interpretation of New England heritage.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with visitors of all ages — especially elementary-aged children — and thrives in a collaborative, creative, and occasionally quirky team environment. A love of storytelling, hands-on learning, and living history is essential. Dressing in 18th–19th century costume is a regular and exciting part of this role.

  • Pay Range: $16–$18/hour

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

School Field Trips & Youth Programs

  • Lead and support educational programs for school and community audiences.
  • Facilitate hands-on activities that connect early New England history to students’ 21st-century lives.
  • Deliver engaging tours, demonstrations, and immersive experiences.
  • Reset museum spaces, clean activity areas, and assist with costume laundry on program days.

Guided Tours & Big E Programming

  • Lead guided tours through six historic buildings and gardens during summer tour season.
  • Interpret exhibits in an engaging and age-appropriate manner.
  • Support volunteer guides and assist with maintaining welcoming, historically accurate spaces.

Activity & Program Preparation

  • Assist the Youth Program Coordinator with preparation and setup for:
    • School field trips
    • Community outreach programs
    • Early American Summer Days camp
    • Special events and seasonal programming

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s degree in History, Education, or related field OR equivalent education and experience working with elementary-aged children.
  • At least one year of experience in museum programming, education, outreach, or similar role.
  • Ability to pass a CORI background check.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to dress in 18th–19th century costume during most programs and events.
  • Ability to climb stairs repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to operate a top-loading washing machine and front-loading dryer.
  • Comfortable using email and text messaging for communication.
  • Professional communication with the public and staff at all levels.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and a genuine sense of humor.

Join us in creating immersive educational experiences that help visitors understand how the past continues to shape our present. If you love history, enjoy working with children, and want to be part of a team that values creativity, collaboration, and community engagement, we’d love to hear from you.
