An official City of West Sacramento application form must be filled out in its entirety. The NEOGOV online application is considered an official City application. The most qualified applicants will be placed on an eligibility list. The top candidates will be referred for further consideration and the next step in the selection process.
Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor I/II or designee, gives direct supervision of the pool during swim lessons, public swim, or special activities.
Essential Functions- Enforces rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons of the pool; ensures the safety of participants at all times; administers first aid as necessary; assists in implementing all emergency procedures in case of a serious accident or injury; attends all staff meetings and training sessions; and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Performs pool and facility maintenance as necessary.
At least fifteen (15) years of age at the time of employment. Prior experience working as a lifeguard is desirable.
Licenses and CertificatesMust possess the following current certificates prior to placement at the worksite:
Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid and Title 22 of the CA Health and Safety Code. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) highly desirable.
Knowledge of:
Lifeguarding procedures; emergency procedures, first aid and CPR; efficient and safe operation of swimming pools; pool maintenance procedures. Ability to:
Perform emergency procedures and lifesaving techniques; work with people of all ages, cultures, languages and varying aquatic skills; supervise groups of swimmers; remain calm in an emergency situation, follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
