Maintenance Group Lead

Summary of Position

The Maintenance Group Leader is directly responsible for the supervision, formulation, administration and coordination of all maintenance projects, policies, processes, methods and procedures designed to improve and maintain operating performance, reduce waste and delays. The role also focuses on developing, administering and promoting cost reductions on a company-wide basis, and supporting new product start‑ups and launches.

• Provides direction, development and leadership to maintenance associates
• Inspects and checks equipment for proper operating condition, makes necessary adjustments, logs test readings and maintains, repairs or replaces all essential equipment parts
• Performs CNC machining programming and operation
• Reads blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical/electrical diagrams and technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly; prepares sketches as needed
• Uses hand tools, power tools, fixtures, templates and metalworking machines
• Repairs, reworks and calibrates hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies and systems to meet operational specifications and tolerances
• Reviews project instructions and specifications to identify, modify and plan fabrication, assembly and testing requirements
• Devises, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components for products such as industrial machinery, equipment, housings, jigs, fittings, fixtures and measuring instruments
• Analyzes test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications
• Consults with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information
• Researches, evaluates, installs, operates and maintains mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements and applies knowledge of engineering principles
• Identifies, investigates and resolves equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and makes recommendations
• Oversees installation, operation, maintenance and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications
• Conducts research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
• Performs preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems
• Maintains system logs and manuals to document testing and operation of equipment
• Identifies opportunities or implements changes to improve or reduce costs for product, processes, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts
• Activities involve using time‑study or standard data for a variety of machine, assembly and hand operations, production methods, equipment layout, material handling, and manpower, equipment and material utilization to improve operating performance
• Identifies root cause determination of failures using statistical methods and recommends changes in designs, tolerances or processing methods
• Trains production personnel in new or existing methods
• Communicates manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes
• Investigates or resolves operational problems such as material use variances and bottlenecks
