This Highway Guardrail Installer position requires performing a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies and procedures and safety guidelines. This position requires a valid driver's license.
Essential Job Functions- Reading of plans and schematics.
- Layout of Highway Guardrail.
- Handling and installing all of the materials for guardrail installation.
- Loading and unloading materials on a flat‑bed truck and/or trailer by hand, digging holes, using power tools, etc.
- Operation of Post Pounder/Driver Truck.
- Drive long distances to deliver materials to jobsites in a timely manner.
- Load, unload and record cargo deliveries.
- Maintain paperwork.
- Refuel and clean vehicle.
- Inspect trucks and record issues; report road incidents to dispatcher and mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.
- Follow traffic laws and accident procedures.
- Plan routes using GPS system.
- 3-5 years guardrail installation experience.
- Proven work experience as a truck driver with extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
- Hands‑on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, AVL units, CB etc.).
- Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.).

- Must possess a current and valid driver's license; will require passing MVR and a controlled‑substance test, may require background and criminal record check. Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
- Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or at a time, standing and walking for extended periods, loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds.
- Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smartphones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively.
- Working outdoors, safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions, including high‑speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances.
- Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities.
- Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports and construction plans.
- Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone.
- Communicating clearly – both written and verbally; ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor.
- Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees.
- Must maintain company standards post‑employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing.
