Driver
Medical Courier - $16.50
Transport blood, blood products, campus mail, supplies, and medical equipment between processing/distribution centers, branches, blood drive sites, and hospitals.
Key Responsibilities- Efficiently and accurately transport unprocessed/processed blood and blood products, campus mail, supplies and medical equipment using an assigned vehicle (van/small truck).
- Practice safe driving skills during transit; adhere to all driving regulations.
- Load and unload vehicles, employing safe lifting, pushing, and pulling techniques.
- Deliver inventory to specified points within a designated route, which may include branches, hospitals, field trip sites, headquarters, and mobile units.
- Deliver packages utilizing public transportation in emergency situations (e.g., airline, bus, train).
- Maintain a log of items received and delivered; document daily activities as required.
- Conduct basic safety and readiness checks of the assigned vehicle before departure per SOP; report any problems or mechanical issues.
- Serve as back‑up on‑call driver for other shifts or routes as needed.
- Notify supervisor of any concerns, issues, and/or delays.
- Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; six months to one year of route delivery experience preferred. - Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Designations
Current and valid driver’s license in good standing. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive for extended periods.
• Ability to safely navigate city streets and freeways; determine most efficient routes.
• Knowledge of safe operating procedures.
• Knowledge of proper handling of blood and blood products.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to be self‑motivated and self‑disciplined.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
• Ability to perform tasks using digital technology and communication tools (smartphones, tablets, etc.).
• Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 100 pounds). Moving objects of significant weight may require another person and/or use of proper techniques and equipment.
Environmental RequirementsThe work is performed inside and/or outside; can be exposed to adverse conditions such as inclement weather, atmospheric elements, and pathogenic substances. Performance of this job could expose the employee to blood‑borne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
