Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
This is a responsible position involving preventive maintenance and/or fueling of a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment. Responsibilities include decision making within the established policies and procedures. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Inspect and/or replace air, fuel, oil, transmission, hydraulic, etc., filters on heavy construction equipment as prescribed by the manufacturer
- Grease and lubricate automotive and heavy construction equipment
- Fuel off road equipment
- Account for all fuel and lubricants dispensed from fuel truck
- Inspect machines for maintenance deficiencies and report findings to heavy equipment supervisor
- Maintain records on preventive maintenance on each completed piece of equipment
- Operate automotive and construction equipment as necessary
- Perform daily fuel/oil vehicle maintenance
- Accurately report hour meter readings to Maintenance department
- Perform related work as required

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Considerable knowledge of standard practices and equipment of the heavy equipment maintenance trade.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles of gasoline and diesel engines on heavy trucks and construction equipment.
- Ability to work independently and maintain self‑motivation to complete tasks timely.
- Ability to communicate with the general public, peers, and superiors in English.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and achieve group goals.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex instructions.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to maintain required records on equipment.
- Skill in the use and care of hand and machine tools.
- Perform related work as required.
The ideal candidate possesses the education and experience listed below.
- One year certificate from college or technical school.
- Minimum one year experience and/or training in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid CDL license Class B required with Haz Mat and tanker endorsement
- Class A preferred
