Shop Diesel Truck & Bus Mechanic – $5000 New Hire Bonus
CAMFS is hiring a Shop Diesel Technician II at Cox Automotive Inc. This role supports future growth, performs DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, diagnostics, and more.
Duties- Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in cleanup at the end of each day.
- Apply knowledge from training and experience to perform the job; evaluate technical information.
- Collaborate with Service Writer to assess customer needs and resolve issues.
- Prioritize work activities and manage concurrent tasks.
- Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments and confidentiality.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duy vehicles.
- Carry out routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders ("RO") and upload photos via Karmak application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation.
- Maintain productivity and stick to standard repair times.
- Communicate with Shop Manager for approvals on estimates, purchase orders, and RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations.
- Participate in all required safety training.
- Maintain shop-assigned service trucks and conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, steering, transmissions, clutches, differentials).
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck and bus equipment.
- Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Diesel Technician on medium to heavy‑duy vehicle repair or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bus maintenance experience preferred.
- Participate in and complete all in‑company training.
- Must pass a DOT-regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
- A valid DOT medical card with more than four months until expiration may replace DOT physical, otherwise physical required.
- Age 21 years or older due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Safe drivers needed; 3‑year MVR review required; holder of a valid state driver’s license and able to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
- Physical endurance for repetitive tasks without tiring.
- Communicate information succinctly and engage effectively with individuals and groups.
- Determine required tools and equipment.
- Accurately judge distances between objects.
- Apply logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
- ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification
- ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
- ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
- ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
- ASE 608/609 certification
