Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and inspire the Meat department team to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Provide hands‑on training to associates to ensure knowledge, consistency, and efficiency
  • Model and reinforce outstanding service by offering tailored recommendations and educating guests
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by store leadership
  • Product Quality & Operations
    • Ensure product freshness and strict adherence to sanitation and food safety protocols
    • Maintain, replenish, and rotate displays to ensure visual appeal and quality
    • Cut and prepare meat products according to Joseph’s specifications
    • Package, label, and verify signage and pricing accuracy for all self‑service items
    • Take and fulfill custom and special orders for customers
  • Manage departmental budgets, including sales goals, profit margins, labor costs, and supply expenses
  • Write and manage labor schedules aligned with business needs
  • Oversee ordering and inventory to minimize waste and prevent out‑of‑stocks
  • Monitor shrink and implement strategies to protect profitability
  • Equipment & Safety
    • Clean and sanitize work areas, tools, and prep surfaces consistently
    • Operate and maintain knives, scales, band saws, grinders, wrapping machines, and other meat equipment
    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2–3 years of leadership experience in meat retail, butcher shop, grocery, or food service environments
  • Strong knowledge of meat cutting, product sourcing, portion control, and food safety standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and hold team members accountable to performance expectations
  • Experience managing department sales, shrink, labor budgets, and profitability targets
  • Proven understanding of inventory control, ordering systems, and margin management
  • Strong communication, organizational, and conflict‑resolution skills
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds and work in refrigerated environments for extended periods
  • Serv Safe or equivalent food safety certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Passion for delivering a premium food experience and building a high‑performing team
Physical & Work Environment

This role is performed primarily in the Meat department, including preparation rooms and refrigerated coolers. The Meat Department Manager must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and lift products weighing up to 80 pounds. The environment includes exposure to varying temperatures, sharp tools, heavy equipment, and frequent movement between prep and sales floor areas. The position requires regular interaction with customers and team members, strong communication skills, and the ability to foster a positive, performance‑driven work culture.
