The State Attorney’s Office, 15th Judicial Circuit, is currently accepting applications for an INVESTIGATOR I. This is an AT WILL POSITION.

Special Notes

ONLY APPLICANTS WITH CURRENT LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED. A high school diploma or equivalency and four (4) years of sworn investigative or sworn law enforcement experience in one of the following areas is required:

  • Financial/Elderly Abuse Investigations.
  • Computer, Child Exploitation, Sex Crimes and or Special Victims Crimes.
  • Internal Affairs and or Public Corruption Investigations.
  • General Assignment Criminal Investigations.
  • Crimes Against Persons Investigations.

Special preference will be given to bilingual applicants with Florida Law Enforcement Certification and a college degree. This position requires a physician’s assessment (physical exam) to ensure the applicant is capable of performing the essential functions of a law enforcement officer; a security background check, including fingerprinting, verification of prior employment, a neighborhood check, and successful completion of a drug test as a condition of employment.

Applicants who served in the military must submit a copy of their DD Form 214. Some travel required.

Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations; to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; to deal with individuals in critical situations in an effective manner; to gather and preserve evidence; to describe facts and events accurately; to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

to analyze and interpret data; to effectively interview suspects, complainants and witnesses.

Brief Description of Duties

Conducts interviews with a wide range of persons. Secures documentary evidence. Takes sworn statements. Conducts physical surveillance. Prepares investigative reports. Assist prosecutors in preparation and presentation of misdemeanor and felony cases. Obtains and serves warrants and subpoenas and makes arrests.

Minimum Qualifications

Florida Statute 943 requires that any person employed in this class must: (1) Be at least 19 years of age. (2) Be a citizen of the United States, notwithstanding any laws of the State to the contrary. (3) Be a high school graduate or its “equivalent” as the term may be determined by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission of the Department of Law Enforcement.

(4) Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, not withstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.

(5) Have his/her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency. (6) Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the Commission. (7) Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Commission. (8) Possess a current certification as a Florida law enforcement officer. The certification will be confirmed with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

Salary and Benefits
