Special eligibility notes: This position requires a security background check, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities- Conduct extensive investigations, including following up on leads, conducting interviews, executing search warrants, and making arrests.
- Conduct follow-up latent investigations, interview witnesses, and interrogate suspects as appropriate to obtain background information on suspects.
- Identify and arrest criminal suspects; prepare and present information and evidence to the prosecuting attorney.
- Provide expert testimony at legal proceedings and assist in the preparation of witnesses, victims, and evidence for use by the prosecution.
- Identify, recruit, document, and supervise confidential sources per Division Policies and Procedures.
- Collect, seize, protect, maintain, transport and document evidence in accordance with statutes and Division policies.
- Demonstrate sound surveillance techniques and undercover capabilities as needed.
- Provide investigative support to Division personnel and to other public safety entities.
- Apply diverse knowledge and research methods; develop strategic and tactical intelligence.
- Monitor arrests, prosecutions, and forfeitures; maintain liaison with prosecutors.
- Conduct thorough background investigations into potential Department employees; establish and maintain liaison with other entities.
- Perform disaster-related duties as requested.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Active Certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer; pass Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination or have completed the Florida Equivalency of Training and be eligible for certification, per Florida Statutes.
- Valid Florida driver’s license by time of employment.
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- For Law Enforcement Investigator II: three (3) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience.
- Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Bilingual verbal and written skills may be given special consideration.
- College education may substitute for required experience at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year, up to one year.
- Individuals with less than three years of sworn law enforcement experience may be considered at a lower title depending on agency needs.
- The division requires living within 50 miles of the assigned duty station; distance will be measured geodesic ally from residence to office.
- Candidate profiles must be completed in full with all employment details, supervisor contacts, and explanations for any gaps in employment.
