Overview
The Surgical Technologist Extern is a member of the surgical team who assumes responsibility for a surgical specialty, serving as the main resource for instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and procedures within the assigned specialty. The extern functions under the direction of the RN, assisting with intraoperative patient care by performing the scrub role during surgical procedures. Additional duties may include picking supplies/instruments for cases, putting away supplies and equipment, decontamination of instruments, and stocking supplies in OR rooms.
Responsibilities- Assist with intraoperative care by performing the scrub role during surgical procedures.
- Act as the main resource for instrumentation, equipment, and supplies within the assigned specialty.
- Pick and prepare supplies/instruments for cases; decontaminate instruments as needed.
- Stock and organize supplies in operating room (OR) rooms.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the surgical team.
- Post high school, vocational/specialized training.
- Previous operating room experience preferred.
- Must be enrolled in or recently graduated from a specialized program in Surgical Technology/Technologist.
- Certification in Surgical Technology/Technologist is preferred.
- BLS Certification.
