F. Kravis Center is a 501(c)(3) not for profit performing arts center located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach celebrating 33 years of artistic development. The Center’s campus includes 3 performance venues - a 2,195-seat theatre venue and two 300-seat black box venues - plus a 10,500 square-foot banquet facility.

Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time Controller to join our team. In this role, you will lead day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a mission-driven performing arts center with an annual operating budget of approximately $50 million and a workforce of roughly 250 employees. Reporting to the CFO, this role ensures the integrity of the general ledger, oversees monthly and annual close processes, manages audits and tax coordination, strengthens internal controls, and delivers clear, actionable financial reporting to leadership and the Board.

  • Lead accounting operations including general ledger, AP, AR, cash, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and reconciliations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close; ensure timely, GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and Board Finance/Audit Committee materials.
  • Maintain accounting policies and stay current with GAAP/FASB nonprofit standards.
  • Proven ability to present to and engage with the Board of Directors and Board committees, including leading discussions on financial performance, audit findings, and key financial risks.
  • Prepare and reconcile job costing and project expenses
Earned Revenue & Ticketing
  • Oversee accounting for ticketing, subscriptions, rentals, touring engagements, sponsor ships, concessions, and education programs.
  • Ensure strong revenue-cycle controls and reconciliation across ticketing and merchant systems.
Restricted Funds, Grants & Compliance
  • Track restricted funds, grants, and contracts including reporting, drawdowns, and releases.
  • Coordinate with Development and Programs to ensure compliance with donor and funder requirements.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Support annual budgeting, reforecasting, and long-range planning.
  • Partner with department leaders on variance analysis and financial decision support.
Audit, Tax & Regulatory
  • Lead annual audit process and coordinate Form 990 and regulatory filings.
  • Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, and compliance reporting.
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and procedures.
  • Assist the CFO with selection and implementation of financial and related systems.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and a transition to a paperless environment.
  • Align staff skillsets through cross-training and succession planning.
  • Support cross-departmental financial training and financial literacy
Facilities & Capital
  • Oversee lease accounting, fixed assets, depreciation, and capital project tracking.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff. Establish clear goals and performance expectations for each team member.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, IT, Development, Production, and Operations.
  • Participate in networking and peer learning opportunities within the sector.
Other
  • Support the CFO with special projects and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications/

Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Financial Acumen:
    Keen analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data strategically.
  • Experience:

    7-10 years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting/audit, with experience in a complex non-profit environment and multiple revenue streams.
  • Communication:
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts to non-finance managers and board members.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a service mindset as well as a high level of integrity, judgment, and attention to detail.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and accounting system expertise.
