Assistant Technical Superintendent / Assistant Marine Technical Superintendent Preferred Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or a related field; or a combination of post‑high school and equal experience may be substituted for education
  • EXPERIENCE: 2 or more years experience sailing as a USCG Licensed Engineer on commercial vessels and an understanding of engine room operations.
  • TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and general ship repairs
  • COMPETENCIES:
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners
    • Ability to function effectively with, or as part of a team
    • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines
    • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills
    • Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment
    • Ability to prepare clear and concise documents, including, but not limited to reports, procedures, correspondences and other written materials
    • Must be able to work within a shipboard environment which includes crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders
    • May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time
Responsibilities

SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the coordination and overseeing the maintenance, repair and safe operations of all the engineering needs for assigned vessels and equipment

  • Assist as needed during vessel dry dock periods.
  • Assist with the development of budgets and schedules, contractor selection, quality assurance and contract management while continually interfacing with regulatory agencies, design groups and shipyards.
  • Monitor repairs or new construction actions when carrying out repair activity.
  • Make sure all applicable regulatory documentation for vessels are kept current and periodic inspections are accomplished.
  • Ensure in‑house and third‑party inspections, repairs, maintenance and record keeping is performed on a regular basis.
  • Manage within the company ISM policy, vessel operating manual, as well as ensure the Class Society rules are within guidelines.
