The Corporate Environmental Director is responsible for global strategic planning, policy development, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws. It also involves providing technical support and overseeing environmental initiatives across all ASR locations. The role requires close collaboration with Legal, Risk, Operations, and Engineering to achieve and maintain environmental compliance.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE- 10+ years’ experience directly or indirectly related to environmental management of multiple sites.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- Strong regulatory knowledge in federal, state and local regulations within the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Portugal.
- Experience in managing environmental regulatory issues successfully at multiple facilities/sites.
- Experience with creating, implementing and maintaining strategies and compliance programs.
- Understanding of process technologies and compliance variables related to management of stormwater wastewater, air emissions, and waste generation/storage.
- Experience with Title V, SPCC, NPDES, and wastewater treatment operations.
- BS Degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field from an accredited college/university.
- Advanced degree from an accredited college/university a plus.
- 10 – 25 % domestic and international travel.
- Environmental strategic pillar owner – development of regulatory strategies for operational permits, obtaining operational permits and representing the company during negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions, variances or other environmental areas.
- Support assessments of environmental impacts, liability avoidance, and assurance for existing or new technologies for business.
- Support, deliver and/or create as needed environmental training programs to support corporate policies and initiatives.
- Assist in environmental due diligence on potential acquisition, joint ventures or other strategic future transactions.
- Preparing and publishing or presenting technical papers, reports and policies to business unit(s)/group management.
- Drive continuous improvement of the Environmental function and associated activities.
- Supervision of direct report(s) and leadership of the Environmental organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to keep them informed of current problems, changes and new developments in the department and company.
- Monitor work productivity, recommend, as well as implement changes to improve work productivity.
- Plan and monitor workload for timely and accurate completion.
- Coordinate workflow and procedures to maximize service.
- Coach and counsel direct reports on performance issues.
- Complete annual and semi‑annual (where appropriate) performance appraisals for all direct reports in a timely manner.
- Arrange for cross training of teams to maximize productivity and provide coverage of all functions.
- Counsel direct reports on educational and job opportunities which will enhance their career development.
- Complete time off approvals and scheduling for coverage as needed.
- Administer all policies and procedures set forth by ASR Group.
