At the South Florida Water Management District (District), we are committed to making Florida a better place to live and work. We are looking for an Engineer to participate in the District’s world’s largest ecosystem restoration efforts and help operate and maintain water control structures and pump stations to provide flood protection for 9 million residents. The successful candidate will work with a team of professionals to design for implementation of the District’s $4.5 billion capital improvement program, deliver high quality designs of complex projects, and assist in streamlining processes to our standards.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines are essential.
This position involves the design of projects, review of designs prepared by others, and setting standards for the construction of our facilities and capital improvement projects to support the water management system, water storage impoundments, constructed wetlands, and other infrastructure for restoring the Everglades. The candidate shall be an experienced Electrical Professional Engineer serving in a hands-on design capacity as a technical expert responsible for construction drawings, technical specifications, design reports and calculations, reviewing designs, providing Engineering During Construction support, coaching staff, evaluating engineering change requests, and updating District standards for a broad range of water resource projects for the Bureau.
Incumbent should have solid working knowledge of related engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Environmental) and demonstrate extensive expertise in design development, design reports, calculations, plans, and specifications in support of construction documents. The role requires delivering design work for electrical, control, and related infrastructure with emphasis on restoration, flood control, and water supply projects. The incumbent acts as principal designer on multi-disciplined project teams as needed to complete scheduled design deliverables.
Designs cover new construction and refurbishment of aging infrastructure with project types including electrical service and controls for water control structures, automation of flood control and water supply infrastructure, electrical features for office space and control facilities, grounding plans for ancillary features, and arcflash evaluation and coordination.
