Overview
The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is recruiting for a well-trained, energetic Physician (Otolaryngology). The Otolaryngologist works full time for the Surgical Care Services and will provide ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care to Veterans at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. For more information, refer to Required Documents below.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
BasicRequirements
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy - Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State/Territory/Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
- Residency Training:
Otolaryngology residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification - Board Certification in Otolaryngology

- Physical Requirements:
Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019 - Light to moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs), light carrying (up to 15 lbs), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required
- Walking and standing up to 2 hours each; kneeling up to 1 hour
- Visual and color acuity requirements; hearing (aid permitted); emotional and mental stability
- Ability to work closely with others and also independently
- This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT; eligible applicants will be referred until all vacancies are filled
- Provide initial evaluation and follow-up visits with medical and surgical management of ENT diseases and related head and neck conditions
- Treat infections, benign and malignant tumors, facial trauma; perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery; manage admissions, consultations, preoperative workups, and postoperative care
- Make preliminary diagnoses; direct and provide treatment; arrange for specialized care or referrals as required
- Participate in Emergency and On-Call schedule
- Provide comprehensive ENT care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up
- Manage inpatient care with consultations as appropriate; conduct outpatient clinics
- Review medications, diet, therapy course, adherence, and patient observations; modify management plans as indicated; counsel patients
- Serve as a consultant to primary care physicians and accept referrals
- Educate patients, staff, trainees, and seminar participants; participate in the Surgical Department Quality Assurance and Peer Review programs

Competitive salary; annual performance bonus; regular salary increases - Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and possible 5 days CME leave)
