Job Title: Senior Technician

Location: West Monroe, LA 71291

The Senior Technician will perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start-ups of high voltage substations. Senior Technicians have responsibility as crew leads, serving as a point of contact with clients and ensuring safe work practices on each job.

• Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switch gear including but not limited to: protective relays and relaying systems; circuit breakers; power transformers; current and potential transformers; meters, transducers, and power system metering; power cables; grounding systems; motors and motor starters; station batteries and chargers; alarm systems and annunciators; personal protective equipment.
• Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis. Make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs.
• Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended.
• Represent the company in a professional manner with regard to communicating and interfacing with clients.
• Communicate effectively with the company management team on project status and scheduling of manpower and equipment.
• Make safety a top priority at all times, with a zero tolerance policy for unsafe practices.
• Conduct safety meetings and complete Job Safety and Training Analysis (JSTA’s).
• Other duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent is preferred. Minimum ten (10) years of electrical testing, maintenance, and start-up of high voltage substations is required.

• Experience performing low, medium, and high voltage switching operations for various equipment in various substation configurations.
• Ability to understand, comprehend, and explain one-line, three-line, AC/DC schemes, connection diagrams, specific circuits, and transformer configurations.
• Experience using applicable programming/testing software as it relates to protective relaying.
• Experience testing meters (ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, power factor meters).
• Understand the purpose of and perform basic current & potential transformer tests, capacitor bank tests, and ground grid tests.
• Understand different types of transducers and their purposes.
• Knowledge of Vacuum versus Air Circuit Breakers; difference between Oil & Gas circuit breakers.
• Basic knowledge of Line Terminal Equipment within a substation.
• Ability to define typical AC & DC fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, and NETA standards.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to diverse groups including administrators, engineers, and senior management.
• Ability to work effectively and lead others in a team-based environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to work safely in hazardous situations within high voltage substations, petrochemical plants, refineries and other safety-critical locations.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a TWIC card.
• Must pass pre-employment Drug, Alcohol and Background Checks; must continue to pass all random and client-required Drug, Alcohol and Background Checks.
• Ability to travel up to 50% required.
• Flexibility for frequent overtime.
