POSITION SUMMARY

Are you an analytical, detail-driven accounting professional who enjoys turning numbers into insight? As a Staff Accountant at STRATA Trust Company
, a subsidiary of Horizon Bank, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and meaningful financial reporting that supports informed decision-making across the organization.

In this role, you'll work closely with the Controller and Senior Accountant, gaining hands‑on exposure to a wide range of accounting functions, from month‑end close and reconciliations to financial analysis, audits, and regulatory reporting. You'll also collaborate with teams across the organization, building a strong understanding of STRATA's operations and trust accounting environment.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Financial records are accurate, complete, and prepared on time.
  • Month‑end and year‑end close processes run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Reconciliations are thorough, well‑documented, and resolved promptly.
  • Leaders and auditors trust the quality and integrity of your work.
  • You continuously build knowledge of STRATA's systems, processes, and trust accounting flows.
  • You take initiative, contribute ideas, and grow your role over time.
WHAT WILL I DO?
  • Prepare journal entries and support general ledger operations.
  • Assist with monthly and year‑end close processes and the preparation of financial statements.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and perform account and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare financial analysis and supporting schedules as requested.
  • Support accounts receivable, accounts payable, and expense reimbursement processing.
  • Assist with tax computations, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Monitor and resolve bank‑related issues.
  • Support regulatory reporting and data gathering activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including documentation and coordination.
  • Help implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Learn and support core system processes related to financial and trust accounting.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or taken on.
AM I THE RIGHT FIT?

Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum:
    Bachelor's level accounting degree and 2+ years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties of this position.
  • Knowledge and training in computer systems including Quick Books, Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Strong reasoning abilities, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to analyze data and recognize inconsistencies and discrepancies and to work with supervisors and management on resolutions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, effective verbal and written communication skills, and excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Solid mathematical background.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated initiative to take on new projects and learn new skills.
  • The ability to successfully work as member of a team.

Desired qualifications:

  • Direct experience working within financial services or similar industry.
