Overview
Operate specialized, CDL-required heavy equipment to collect and remove refuse and recyclable materials across campus. Safely maneuver vehicles, trucks, and equipment in areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
What You ll Be Doing- Operate specialized, CDL-required heavy equipment to collect and remove refuse and recyclable materials across campus. Safely maneuver vehicles, trucks, and equipment in areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
- Use broad knowledge of assigned routes and campus operations to adjust schedules as needed to meet business and customer needs. Make moderate to significant operational adjustments as conditions and priorities change.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external partners regarding material handling, policies, practices, and procedures. Work independently with limited supervision to complete daily assignments that have a significant impact on the campus community.

Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need
- HS diploma/GED
- 3+ years of work experience in the operations of refuse/recycling equipment or similar type equipment such as semi-trucks, straight trucks, or heavy equipment
Skills Needed
- Minor equipment maintenance skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the first 90 days of employment
- Must pass required medical exams
- Must pass departmental driving test demonstrating ability to back truck up a narrow ramp at least 100 yds
- Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. frequently during course of day, and up to 100 lbs. daily
- Works outdoors 95% of the time; ability to work in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees
- Exposed to conditions associated with Refuse and Recycling such as dust, odors, mold, toxic chemicals (unsecured containers), pollen, noise, and dead animals
- Ability to climb in and out of Refuse truck frequently daily
- Knowledge of Purdue campus preferred
