Overview
As an experienced professional contributor working under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Civil Rights in the Office for Civil Rights ("OCR"), the position's responsibilities include conducting investigations, providing outreach, and assisting in the resolution of complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence through both informal conflict resolution and formal complaint investigation. This position is primarily located on the Indianapolis campus but could require travel to the West Lafayette and/or regional campuses.
This is a 100% in-office position with no remote option available.
- Receive and investigate complaints of discrimination and harassment, prepare written investigation reports, make recommendations regarding potential violations of University policy, and assist in the informal resolution process
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations (including, but not limited to Title II, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, and Section 504) and University policies and procedures
- Provide training, outreach, and supportive measures
- Partner with key designees throughout the investigative process, manage complex workload, meet various timelines, and treat all constituents engaged in the complaint process with respect, sensitivity, and neutrality. Assist with the development and maintenance of accurate and thorough records and notes of all complaints brought forward and investigations conducted
- Conduct education programs on relevant policies and procedures on such topics as harassment, discrimination, and Title IX, formal and informal resolution processes, supportive measures and interim measures, and mandatory reporter requirements
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of two years of experience conducting investigations and collecting and analyzing evidence to reach a conclusion and/or related experience. Comparable experience (preferably in the fields of employment law, student life, human resources or providing accommodations) will be considered
- Research, analysis and analytical writing experience
- Advanced written and oral communication skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport and ability to speak in front of groups and interact effectively in a University setting
- Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with external business partners, students, faculty, and staff
- Working knowledge of Federal and State equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws/regulations (including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, FERPA, ADA, and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other applicable laws/regulations)
- Knowledge of complexities surrounding sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and sexual harassment cases in a university or college setting
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills, including the ability to work effectively with a range of persons both within and outside the University
- Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to identify and discern problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
- Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multitask, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines
- Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
- Valid US or Canadian driver's license
- Master's Degree or Juris Doctorate
- Experience in a Higher Education environment or at a public institution. Previous experience working on cases with OCR, EEOC, and ICRC
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures

- This is a 100% on-site position in Indianapolis, Indiana. There is no remote work option available
- Travel to the West Lafayette campus during period of onboarding will be required
- Some travel to the West Lafayette or regional campuses may be required depending on caseload
