Quality Engineer, First Article Inspection (FAI) Planner (Air Structures)

Saab Aeronautics Indiana LLC seeks a Quality Engineer, First Article Inspection (FAI) Planner (Air Structures) in West Lafayette, IN.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System principles and processes.
  • Responsible for full‑cycle FAI process and mediates root‑cause corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain an FAI schedule (new and delta) that optimizes opportunities to perform air‑structure inspections while minimizing disruption to production through detailed coordination with Production Management, Planning, and Quality departments.
  • Ensure all required inspections have been performed prior to air‑structure shipment.
  • Document FAI activities, adhere to customer documentation requirements, and maintain record retention.
  • Act as customer interface for FAI‑related tasks.
  • Work with FAI coordinators and inspectors.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPI) for the FAI process, monitor performance, and develop actions to improve the process.
  • Facilitate FAI review team meetings on a regular cadence.
  • Review FAI recordings of non‑conformance reports (NCR) identified during manufacturing and inspection, and track all issues.
  • Generate change requests when necessary and track them to closure.
  • Develop, register, implement, and validate root‑cause corrective actions.
  • Apply Quality Management Systems, testing, and inspection methodologies.
  • Follow customer‑specific requirements applicable to FAI.
  • Apply AS9102 and internal requirements applicable to FAI.
  • Administer FAI as part of the overall Quality Management System.
  • Utilize FAI in aeronautics.
  • Administer applicable manufacturing processes and inspection methods.
  • Collaborate with FAI coordinators on job duties and on quality principles and systems.
Compensation

Compensation Range: $55,000‑$91,000. This range is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab considers factors such as role, responsibilities, location, market conditions, and candidate experience and skills.

Skills and Experience
  • 1 year of college education or foreign equivalent in General Studies or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience as a quality engineer.
