An Apprentice Deisel Mechanic for Blue Collar Diesel assists the owners with basic maintenance and shop activities, helps with complex repairs, diagnostics as well as operating shop equipment.
Responsibilities also involve inspecting diesel engines, maintaining records, and cleaning the work area. This role can be a great fit for students or those seeking flexible hours, offering a mix of hands‑on tasks and technical support.
Requires mechanical experience & aptitude, a willingness to learn, and adherence to safety procedures in a shop environment.
Responsibilities- Assist with Maintenance:
Perform oil changes, replace filters, and conduct basic inspections on diesel engines and other vehicle systems. - Repair Assistance:
Assist owners by replacing parts, operating hoists & handling equipment under supervision. - Inspections and Diagnostics:
Inspect diesel engines and related systems (fuel, electrical, brakes, etc.) to diagnose issues. This can involve physical checks and running diagnostic tests. - Shop Operations:
Keep the shop clean and organized, manage tools, and potentially assist with parts inventory or operating equipment like forklifts. - Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of all services performed, parts used, and maintenance completed. - Testing:
Test drive vehicles after repairs to ensure they are running properly.
- Mechanical Aptitude:
Possess a basic understanding of diesel engines and how vehicles work. - Safety‑Conscious:
Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including the use of safety equipment. - Team Player:
Be able to work effectively with experienced mechanics and follow instructions. - Eagerness to Learn:
Motivated to expand knowledge & gain diesel repair hands‑on experience. - Communication:
Possess good communication skills to interact with team members, parts suppliers & clients. - Basic Tools:
Have a personal set of basic hand tools. - Experience:
Certification and prior experience preferred. Driver’s license required. - Flexible
Schedule:
This position is part‑time, 15‑20 hours per week, some weekend hours may be requested. Hourly rate commensurate with experience. - Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to work in a shop environment that can involve varying temperatures and noise levels.
Willing to work afternoon/evenings and Saturdays.
