POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Mechanic C helps maintain production and quality of SME's equipment, machinery and facility by learning processes and conducting repairs and preventive maintenance services. The skills that will be learned and necessary may include, but may not be limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repair of production line equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, welding equipment, packaging and miscellaneous machinery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understands operation of machinery and mechanical equipment and learns to perform preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; by following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, under the direction of Maintenance Mechanic A & B or supervision.
  • Monitors performance of assigned equipment.
  • Learns about and removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Learns dimensional requirements of parts by inspection under direction of trained maintenance personnel.
  • Familiar with the use of calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments and how they are used to adjust parts and control instruments
  • Develops understanding of parts and supply inventories and how to maintain an adequate stock level to anticipate needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Under the direction of maintenance department or supervisor, applies learned knowledge to improve maintenance techniques and operations.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • A Maintenance Mechanic C must comply specifically with all OSHA safety and health rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform each essential duty daily.
  • Prefer High School diploma, GED or equivalent, and general maintenance experience.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and mature enough to handle equipment in a safe and sensible manner.
  • A general aptitude or ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and electronic systems and circuitry.
  • General ability to read, understand and use concepts from mechanical, hydraulic, electrical drawings, schematics and maintenance manuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, if necessary, with co-worker's maintenance supervisory personnel, production supervisors, and inspectors.
  • General mechanical and trouble shooting skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 65 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods.
  • Physically fit to work in an industrial environment and tolerate exposure to varying physical conditions.
  • Must be able to work extended hours when necessary.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate tools, equipment, and safety devices.
  • Tolerance to loud noises, vibrations, dust, heat, and fumes within a fabrication shop environment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) includes safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, high visibility clothing, and hearing protection.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Industrial warehouse and manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, and overhead cranes.
