Overview
Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of clinical education for patients, nursing staff and oncology service staff within the oncology and infusion center. This role supports evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, competency validations, and professional development to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality oncology care.
This role combines clinical expertise with educational leadership to ensure safe, evidence-based oncology care delivery. The Oncology Nurse Educator serves as a clinical expert, mentor, resource and maintains an active clinical presence to support oncology staff. This role serves as collaborating with leadership, providers, pharmacy and interdisciplinary teams to promote best practices in oncology care.
Job DetailsKey Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care in the oncology/infusion setting determined by departmental needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary oncology team to improve patient outcomes and quality
- Develop, implement, evaluate oncology nursing education, quality improvement initiatives and outcomes
- Provide direct staff education, mentorship, training, ongoing in-services and best practices
- Coordinate and support orientation and onboarding for new oncology hires
- Maintain competency management and ongoing education for Oncology Nursing staff
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies
- 5+ years of clinical nursing experience
- 3+ years of Clinical Nurse Educator experience preferred
- Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Masters degree in Nursing Education or Nursing related required or enrolled in Masters degree program
- New York Registered Nurse (RN) License required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Required, BLS Instructor Certification Preferred
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Required
- OCN Preferred (Required within 1 year of Hire)
USD $65.10 - USD $74.20 /Hr.
The Infusion Center at GSUH Cancer Institute is a 22 private and semi-private chair Infusion Center with a full-service infusion pharmacy and onsite laboratory treating patients in Oncology and Hematology. Infusion Center is a specialized outpatient setting where patients receive intravenous (IV), subcutaneous, and other infusion-based therapies such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, blood products, hydration and supportive medications for oncology, hematologic, and other complex medical conditions.
Nursing plays a central role in the patient care within the infusion center. Infusion Nurses partner closely with Oncology Providers and collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers, Pharmacists, Navigators and multidisciplinary care team to coordinate treatment, provide patient and family education, ensure safe efficient, and compassionate delivery of care in the outpatient setting.
