Staff Accountant

Simkhai is searching for a Staff Accountant who will support day-to-day accounting operations for a growing retail and e-commerce business. This role is responsible for general ledger support, daily DTC and marketplace cash reconciliations, accounts receivable, chargeback management, and sales tax compliance. The position works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial records, timely collections, and proper reporting in a high-volume transaction environment.

• Prepare and post journal entries related to revenue, cash, accruals, and adjustments
• Perform daily DTC / e-commerce cash reconciliations for Shopify and marketplace revenue, ensuring deposits, fees, refunds, and chargebacks reconcile to sales activity
• Reconcile payment processor settlements and clearing accounts to the general ledger
• Assist with month-end and period-end close, including balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations
• Reconcile accounts receivable subledger to the general ledger and investigate variances
• Maintain accurate and well-organized general ledger documentation in compliance with internal controls

• Support accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, cash application, and customer account reconciliations
• Monitor, research, and resolve customer deductions, shortages, pricing discrepancies, and chargebacks
• Partner with customers, sales, e-commerce, and operations teams to resolve disputes and recover revenue
• Maintain detailed tracking and documentation of chargeback and deduction activity
• Support preparation and filing of monthly and quarterly sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
• Reconcile sales tax payable accounts and investigate differences between reported and collected tax
• Maintain exemption certificates and supporting documentation as needed
• Assist with sales tax audits and information requests

• Support preparation of monthly financial reports, schedules, and variance analysis
• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing reconciliations and supporting documentation
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal control procedures

• Collaborate with sales, customer service, e-commerce, and fulfillment teams to ensure billing accuracy and proper revenue recognition
• Identify process improvement opportunities related to cash reconciliation, AR workflows, sales tax, and close procedures
• Support ERP and system enhancements as the accounting function scales
• Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope of the position.

• Must have Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Must have 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably in retail, DTC, or e-commerce environments
• Must have solid understanding of general ledger accounting, cash reconciliations, sales tax, and financial statements
• Must have general ledger accounting and account reconciliations experience
• Must have daily DTC / e-commerce cash reconciliation (Shopify and marketplace platforms) experience
• Must have Sales tax compliance (monthly and quarterly filings) experience
• Must have Payment processor settlement reconciliation (fees, refunds, chargebacks) experience
• Must have Month-end close support experience
• Must have Accounts receivable, deductions, and chargeback management experience
• Must have strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Must have proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
• Experience in a small to mid-sized, fast-paced organization preferred
