Overview

The Director of the Lipidomics Core Facility at Yale School of Medicine will lead the establishment and growth of a newly launched research core dedicated to advanced lipidomics. This role is central to unlocking Yale’s state‑of‑the‑art mass spectrometry platforms and providing lipidomics workflow and services. The Director will oversee daily operations, develop cutting‑edge lipidomics methods, and provide expert consultation to internal and external researchers.

Responsibilities include managing instrument performance, building collaborative infrastructure across Yale and beyond, supporting education and outreach, and driving strategic growth through budgeting, planning, and vendor relations. This position is essential for establishing a high‑throughput core that delivers transformative biomedical insights.

Required

Skills And Abilities
  • Deep expertise in lipidomics workflows, including advanced sample preparation, LC‑MS/MS acquisition, and data analysis. Hands‑on experience with high‑resolution Orbitrap platforms (UHMR, Exploris, Eclipse) and qTOF, and associated software (Free Style, Lipid Search, Compound Discoverer, Mass Hunter).
  • Hands‑on experience with programming languages for developing data analysis pipelines (Python, R). Strong background in method development, QC, and reproducibility standards for lipidomics.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, balance multiple priorities, and deliver results under tight timelines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for training, mentoring, and collaborating with diverse researchers.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing instrument operations, vendor relations, and resource allocation. Ability to translate complex lipidomic data into clear, actionable insights for scientific publications and grant proposals.
  • Organizational skills to oversee budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning for a core facility. Commitment to education and outreach, including workshops, tours, and presentations.
Preferred

Skills And Abilities
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Cell Biology, or related field with a focus on lipidomics or mass spectrometry.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in lipid research, including method development and data interpretation.
  • Track record of scientific publications and collaborations in lipidomics, proteomics, or metabolomics.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior staff and training researchers in advanced analytical techniques.
  • Familiarity with institutional recharge models, cost recovery, and KPI tracking for research cores.
  • Active participation in professional societies, conferences, and workshops related to mass spectrometry and lipidomics.
Principal Responsibilities
  • User Training:
    Refine training methodologies and train and mentor users of the research core, providing guidance and expertise.
  • Experiment Support:
    Collaborate closely with researchers and lead complex projects requiring customized solutions within the research core.
  • Facility/Instrument Support:
    Lead and manage research projects within the research core.
  • Technique Development:
    Contribute to the development of research strategies within the research core and evaluate and implement cutting‑edge technologies and methodologies.
  • Data Analysis/Interpretation:
    Analyze and interpret complex scientific data, providing critical insights and recommendations.
  • Equipment Procurement:
    Assist in the evaluation, acquisition, and maintenance of research core equipment.
  • Professional Development:
    Stay updated with emerging research trends and technologies. Participate and present in professional development activities and scientific conferences, representing the research core at conferences and events.
  • Scientific Participation:
    Collaborate with users on manuscript preparation and grant proposals, as applicable.
