The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for working closely with our suppliers to ensure we deliver cost-effective, high-quality products that meet our customers’ needs. The SQE will provide support to the Supply Chain organization relating to improvement of suppliers' quality as well as providing a quality interface, expertise and support to suppliers. The candidate shall be highly motivated and effective team player with strong communication and influential skills.
- Perform source inspections on a wide range of components at suppliers throughout New England.
- Understand key aspects of managing and assuring supplier quality to support and achieve best-in-class supplier quality, delivery, and service while acting as the primary SQE at these suppliers.
- Maintain key relationships with suppliers’ Quality and Operations Management teams, as well as Colt’s Engineering, Operations and Procurement teams.
- Collect/Compile statistical data and drive continuous improvement initiatives at the supplier to prevent escapes, and in support of reduced cost and lead‑time.
- Require and coach suppliers to find root cause and implement irreversible corrective / preventive actions on all quality and delivery issues.
- Team with Engineering and Procurement to develop supplier metrics to track and improve supplier performance.
Bachelor’s degree required; technical degree preferred (e.g. Engineering, Quality) or other Bachelor's degree with demonstrated technical competence.
Experience / Qualifications- 5+ Years of experience
- Must be highly motivated, have excellent organizational skills and self‑starter with a strong desire to succeed and pursue continued growth and developmental opportunities.
- Must be able to demonstrate ability and willingness to own supplier quality performance metrics and drive the world class quality culture.
- Must be willing to travel to suppliers daily and work independently – no overnight travel expected for this activity.
- Must have a strong understanding of GD&T.
- Must have the ability to measure component parts utilizing calipers, micrometers, comparators, gauge blocks, CMM, and a variety of specialized gauges.
- Must be able to request statistical data from suppliers and then process that data into meaningful information on process capability.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, must have demonstrated ability to work effectively with associates at all levels throughout the organization.
- Computer skills – proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Project, Minitab, and GAGEtrak.
- Experience and involvement with a Quality Management System is required.
- Understanding of ISO 9000/2015 and lead/internal auditing certification is a plus.
