Classified Salary Schedule 2025‑2026 rting salary $29.50‑$33.50/hr based on experience.

Summary

The School Nurse provides medical services to learners in the district by administering medications, first aid, maintaining health records, updating immunizations, and providing health education to learners, families, and district staff.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse license required.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR required.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred.
  • Experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Experience with diabetic management, seizures, G‑tubes, catheterization, and pediatric procedures preferred.
  • Basic math skills required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collaboration
  • Collaborates with educational and administrative teams to develop, implement, and monitor medical‑focused Section 504 plans.
  • Develops positive relationships with learners, educators, and the district community.
  • Partners cohesively with other team members and educators.
Communication
  • Contacts parents, doctors, or emergency ambulance services, and/or district faculty/staff when necessary.
  • Maintains open communication with learners, families, educators, and the lead nurse.
  • Provides recommendations to parents concerning treatment of child’s illnesses.
  • Instructs learners and staff in health and hygiene topics.
  • Assists staff by answering questions regarding human development, first aid, nutrition, and dental health and wellness.
  • Provides accurate documentation of intervention, treatment, progress, and need for follow‑up services.
  • Maintains accurate health and immunization records by filling out forms and tracking learners’ health data.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule forms.

  • Examines learners to determine if they should remain in school, return to school, or exit school when illness is reported.
Responsibility
  • Examines children as necessary and reports suspicions of neglect or abuse to county Human Services or Child Protection Services when required.
  • Administers emergency first aid to learners and staff as necessary.
  • Maintains awareness of learners’ health problems and performs nursing procedures to enable school attendance.
  • Dispenses medication as ordered by learners’ physicians.
  • Adheres to the assigned work schedule by maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs duties with awareness of district requirements and administrative policies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk, and hear.
  • Requires close and peripheral vision.
  • May lift up to ~30 pounds.
  • Works with the public and educators while managing competing demands.
  • Environment ranges from quiet to loud noise levels.
  • May contact blood borne pathogens or other bodily fluids on rare occasions.
Education and Experience
  • Registered Nurse license required.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR required.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • 5+ years experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred.
  • Experience with diabetic management, seizures, G‑tubes, catheterization, and pediatric procedures preferred.
