Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfil our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The role includes sales, merchandising, and operational tasks such as cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, and routine cleaning. You will work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership.

The Assistant Manager progressively takes on additional high‑level duties that are specific to that position, but all core responsibilities are shared across the AIT and Assistant Manager roles.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $20–$24 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise, and recommend and help locate products based on guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing that knowledge with teammates.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment policies, exchanges, and security practices.
  • Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) to increase personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales.
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store in the front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register areas.
  • Be knowledgeable of all exchange and return procedures and turn them into show‑business opportunities.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty initiatives.
  • Expand guest selection by coordinating with Inventory Manager, advanced product search tools, and iPad apps.
  • Build good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with show‑business, customer service, and attentiveness.
  • Recognise and communicate guest levels with the team.
  • Ask business‑driven, show‑business questions to management and teammates.
  • Co‑operate with the manager’s coaching to improve sales presentations.
  • Maintain high standards and perform leadership actions whether or not the manager is present.
  • Plan sales goals with the store manager.
  • Take ownership of the store’s sales performance (sales, average sale, business builders, denim).
  • Show passion for product education and show‑business to create results.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Recognise recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals, and Teammate Recommend.
  • Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred programs.
  • Develop skills and assist new teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive floor culture and demonstrate the personal dress code.
  • Participate effectively in daily setup, training, and performance tracking using the Performance Tracker.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by store management.
  • Show passion for denim show‑business and fit cards through coaching.
  • Execute all actions from department calendars and track on the weekly delegation worksheet.
  • Demonstrate leadership during segments.
  • Engage guests with product and keep their names in mind.
  • Understand and promote Buckle benefits and pay.
  • Assist in recruitment of all store staffing needs.
  • Use the Leadership Playbook and maintain accountability for all characteristics.
  • Train and coach for non‑sales positions under manager guidance.
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership and assign zones to teammates.
  • Use new tools and videos for zone ownership and question ownership.
  • Partner with the manager to delegate and review all four zones.
  • Ensure visual standards and weekly visual checklists are met.
  • Identify merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and recommend improvements.
  • Provide store tours and maintain a consistently sized sales floor.
