- Consider patient rights in performance of duties.
- Develop a working relationship with practitioner’s offices; coordinate missing information such as history & physicals, orders, etc.
- Interact respectfully and courteously.
- Communicate effectively and professionally, using a translator when necessary.
- Document and disseminate information to appropriate personnel or departments.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings, committees, and in‑services as required.
- Assist with orientation and training of new personnel and act as a resource for patient‑care problems.
- Identify high‑risk patients and alert the anesthesiologist or relevant staff.
- Provide and coordinate nursing care following the nursing process.
- Use critical thinking to make independent judgments and consult with the supervisory control when appropriate.
- Assist in the completion of pre‑admission assessment calls as time allows.
- Interact appropriately with patients of various age groups.
- Accurately assess and interpret age‑specific patient data and responses.
- Consider age‑specific patient requirements during emergency situations.
- Alert the clinical manager, practitioner, and scheduler if discrepancies arise during the pre‑admission assessment.
- Assist in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient upon admission per facility policy.
- Develop a care plan from assessment data and implement/ document pre‑operative care per protocol.
- Inform patients about routine care and perioperative procedures.
- Provide comfort and reassurance, supporting patient rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Review documentation for discrepancies and address them prior to scheduled day of surgery.
- Adhere to organizational policy regarding standards of conduct and HIPAA confidentiality.
Must have a current nursing license to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health, an unrestricted IA RN license, BLS, and a basic ACLS certification. ACLS and PALS preferred.
